About the city
The Kanpur city is situated on the river bank of Ganga. Kanpur is well known for its industrial sector. It is believed that the city was founded by king Hindu Singh. The Kanpur city covers the area of about 3005 sq km with the approx. population of 41,37,489 (2001 census). The city is placed at 126 metres above the sea level. Kanpur was one of the most important military stations for the Britishers. On 24 March 1803, the Kanpur was declared as a district in Uttar Pradesh. Many wars of independence were taken on this place. Nana Sahib, Tantiya Tope, Azimoollah Khan and Brigadier Jwala Prasad were the popular freedom fighters belong to this land.

1)Jajmau - In the ancient times, Jajmau was popularly known as Siddhapuri. It is a very popular tourism place in Kanpur to visit. It is believed that it was built by Firoz Shah Tughlaq in 1358.
2) Shri Radhakrishna Temple (J.K. Temple) – It is a very beautifully constructed temple in Kanpur. It is popularly known as J.K. Temple in the city. It was built by J.K. Trust. Every day many devotees visit to this temple to prey God and to watch its beauty.
3) Allen Forest Zoo – It is considered as one of the best and popular zoo in the country. This zoo was opened in 1971 and an ideal place for outdoor life.
4) Nana Rao Park – Nana Rao Park is located on the west of Phool Bagh. In ancient times, it was popularly known as Bibighar but after independence it is named as Nana Rao Park.
5) Harcourt Butler Technological Institute - The Harcourt Butler Technological Institute was established in 1920 at Kanpur and is engaged in imparting technical training and industrial research.
