In Uttar Pradseh Assembly polls which is going to take place in 2012, about 44 districts in Uttar Pradesh have been declared sensitive by Election Commission of India (ECI) due to various reasons.
Sensitive districts in UP assembly elections and their reasons
In total there are 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh (UP), out of which 44 have been declared sensitive by reports of District Election Officers which they sent to Chief Electoral Office (CEO) as part of the pre-poll review. Here is brief break up of why 44 districts are sensitive in UP
18 districts are politically sensitive due to influential and senior leaders of various political parties contesting elections from these constituencies. The politically sensitive districts in UP are Firozabad, Aligarh, Allahabad, Kaushambi, Balia, Basti, Siddharth Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Faizabad, Deoria, Auraiya, Ramabai Nagar, Hardoi, Lucknow, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Rampur and Muzaffarnagar.
10 districts are communally sensitive. The communally sensitive districts in UP are Allahabad, Kaushambi, Mau, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Faizabad, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar are Prabuddh Nagar
4 are sensitive due to criminal activities. The criminally sensitive districts in UP are Panchsheel Nagar, Mau and Firozabad
4 are sensitive due to maoists activities: Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Bahraich and Ghazipur
2 are sensitive due to dacoits in the area: Banda and Chitrakoot
The highly sensitive districts in UP in 2012 assembly elections are Aligarh, Mainpuri, Allahabad, Kaushambi, Basti, Bahraich, Kheri, Panchsheel Nagar, Baghpat, Mirzapur and Moradabad. Some of the other districts of UP and reason for their sensitiveness are:
DEO of Mathura is sensitive because of its being a religious place and the recent terror activities.
Pratapgarh has been reported highly sensitive in view of law and order.
Balia is sensitive due to poverty and feudalistic society.
In Sant Kabir Nagar and Auraiya, security forces are not sufficient in number.
Ramabai Nagar is sensitive due to kidnapping cases.
Bahraich, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Kheri, Balrampur, Shrawati are sensitive due to their closeness to Indo-Nepal border.
Sant Ravidas Nagar is sensitive due to caste politics
Bulandshahr district is sensitive due to land mafia and caste politics.
