Mayawati, Uma bharti, Traders and other political leaders are against FDI in retail in Uttar Pradesh, Though there are many benefits of FDI in retail in UP along with some side effects, political leaders in UP don’t see the plus points/ advantages of FDI in retail in Uttar Pradesh.

Uma Bharti view on FDI in Retails on Uttar Pradesh


BJP leader Uma Bharti threatened to burn down Walmart outlets if they are established in India. She said permitting Walmart to invest directly in the retail sector, employment opportunities of Dalits, poor and backwards will be hampered. However she forgot to take into account various advantages of FDI in retail. Uma Bharti also received criticism for the kind of words she used form CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta. He said, she shouldnot use such words as she is Member of Parliament.

Traders view on FDI in Retails on Uttar Pradesh


Traders in Uttar Pradesh (UP) protested outside the residence of Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal against the Central Government's decision to approve 51 percent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail. They requested him to roll back decision of FDI in retail. According to them allowing permitting Wal-Mart in Uttar Pradesh to open its retail chain will hamper the local traders of Uttar Pradesh. They also requested to stop allowing permission to Multinational companies in UP and India as a whole. This whole incident happened after The Cabinet's decision to allow 51 percent FDI in multi-brand retail and 100% FDI in single-brand retail

Mayawati view on FDI in Retails on Uttar Pradesh


According to Mayawati, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, "FDI in retail will push UP to bankruptcy". Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector would make Uttar Pradesh a bankrupt state.
