Proposal for division of Uttar Pradesh into 4 new states has been announced by the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati. This move is seen by many as being taken by keeping 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. in mind. Get the details of these new 4 states that is to be carved out of Uttar Pradesh here at HamaraUP.

Names of new states from Uttar Pradesh

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Ms. Mayawati announced the proposal for formation of four new districts from Uttar Pradesh. The names of states in to which UP will be divided are
  • Poorvanchal: Eastern part of the state with 32 districts will be made into a new state called Poorvanchal
  • Harit Pradesh: 22 western districts will form a new state called Harit Pradesh
  • Bundelkhand: 7 districts adjoining Madhya Pradesh will form Bundelkhand.
  • Central UP: 14 districts which will be left in the middle will be called central UP.

According to Mayawati, the reason for creation of new states from UP is to provide better administration. But this is seen by everybody, including the educated public and the opposition party as a poll plank ahead of 2012 Uttar Pradesh elections. Definitely managing such a big state is problem, but that is not impossible. And even if Uttar Pradesh will not solve the problem, because the politicians who will represent it, will be same. A live example is the state of Jharkhand which was created to enable faster progress. But go and ask people of Jharkhand, what progress Jharkhand has made in last 10 years. And its parent state Bihar is marching ahead with 14% annual growth rate. So the people who give the example of smaller states like Goa, Himachal Pradesh might need to think again. It is not just the size of states but also the political will to aim for development and good governance.
