Hariyali Teej is celebrated by women folk in the month of Shravan[july-august]. Hariyali Teej festival in Uttar Pradesh.

U.P has a rich culture of pujas and rituals and they speak a lot about the traditions and religious beliefs of the people here.

One of the pujas celebrated by women of this state is Haryali Teej.As the name suggests the puja is celebrated to welcome the beautiful and bountiful monsoons.
There is greenery and harvest all over prevailing a sense of happiness and relief from the scorching summer.Monsoon season holds a special importance for newly wed women who welcome the romantic season with more enthusiasm and there are rituals of wearing green coloured clothes and bangles with jewellery and henna decorated hands and of receiving gifts from the in-laws.Women keep a fast the whole day and take food and water only after seeing the moon at night and performing puja.

They also sing songs and swing in decorated swings.Sweet dishes are prepared for the family and all rejoice in good spirit.

Vrindavan where Lord Krishna is said to have grown up celebrates Hariyali Teej by adorning the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha in the Banke Bihari temple and placing them on the gold swing and this is done only once a year during this puja celebrations.
