A brief on how pregnancy stretch marks develop and how they can be treated or prevented.
Pregnancy stretch marks are one of the major concerns of pregnant women affecting a majority of them. Such marks may develop on your belly, your breast as well your hips and thighs. Initially these stretch marks appear to be reddish in texture but later take a faded look and appear whitish. This is because the skin which is stretched is transparent vaguely exposing the small blood vessels beneath.
There are a few causes of pregnancy stretch marks. The main cause being the increasing size of your belly as your baby grows inside your womb. As your belly expands, the skin is stretched beyond its elasticity limit. The collagen in the skin tissue break as a result and hence gives rise to stretch marks. Women carrying twins or big babies are more susceptible to pregnancy scars. Your breast skin tissues may also break as it become larger in size during pregnancy.
Another factor responsible for pregnancy stretch marks is excessive weight gain during pregnancy. A pregnant woman tends to gain excess weight as she is now on an eating spree while physical movements get reduced drastically. This leads to more fat deposits in areas such as abdomen, hips, and thighs. This also leads to tear of skin tissues leading to scars formation in pregnant women. Hormonal factor may also play a role in pregnancy scar development. Certain hormones are produced for softening the collagen in your pelvis ligaments to prepare you for childbirth. These hormones also affect the skin tissues in other body areas thus making your skin more liable to tear.
Now coming to remedies for pregnancy stretch marks, there are many creams and lotions available in the market which claim to be highly successful. There is no harm in trying these products. But the best way to prevent pregnancy stretch marks is to stay fit during pregnancy. Staying fit means eating the right food in the right quantity and adopting a light to moderate exercise routine. Doing so will prevent excessive weight gain during pregnancy and hence the possibility of your skin being stretched beyond its limit is less. Moreover, massaging your skin daily with a moisturizer can improve blood circulation, which further encourages new skin growth. It is an effective way to reduce the appearance stretch marks.
