Preparing to Conceive: Change Your Food Regimen Now

Adopting a diet regimen while preparing to get conceived.


For couples who want to start a family it is imperative to know what to eat when preparing to conceive. Before conceiving a healthy nutritious diet is a must which will always be good for you and the baby. Such a diet regimen prepares your body for a good pregnancy and a healthy infant.

Zinc plays a significant role in the production of new cells, protects from free radicals, boosts the immune system and helps in improving fertility. Zinc is found in wheat germ, peas, oats, tofu and meat.

Vitamin B is very important and among the B vitamins folic acid play a vital role in preventing birth defects. Green leafy vegetables, whole grains and melons are good source of folic acid. These may not give the sufficient amount so a supplement may be necessary. Other B complex vitamins help in hormonal function. They are mostly found in eggs, cereals, spinach, salmon and chicken.

Vitamin A is another important constituent in the diet for a healthy pregnancy. It helps in maintaining healthy hair, skin, mucous membrane, and above all it helps in proper reproduction. Carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, spinach, milk and other dairy products are rich source of vitamin A.

Vitamin C is important as it plays a major role in healthy ovulation. Vitamin C helps in preventing infections and assists in the regular functioning of the body. Citrus fruits, broccoli preferably raw, red peppers and strawberry are good source of Vitamin C.

A good level of vitamin E will aid fertility. Green leafy vegetables, wheat germ, eggs, sweet potatoes and sunflower seeds are good sources of this vitamin. Vitamin E also protects the body from free radicals and helps in improving the immune system.

Essential fatty acids are important as they are required for normal production of hormones. Fish oils are the main source of essential fatty acids.

A protein rich diet may help to increase female fertility as well. Meat, eggs, milk and legumes are good source o protein.

Iron is necessary for the production of red blood cells and helps in carrying oxygen to all parts of our body. Iron can be found in red meat, poultry, leafy greens and soy products.
Exercising and healthy diet may promote overall health, which then may improve fertility and avoid conditions that may inhibit fertility.
