Deoria District was created in March 16, 1946.
It was created by separating it from Gorakhpur District.
Deoria [Dev+area] means place of God .It is mainly because in Deoria District there are many temples.So,this is the reason it is known as Deoria.
In Deoria, Devrahi (or Deorahi)Temple is very famous. It is Lord Shiva's Temple.
Shyam Mandir,Deoria is a newly built temple in Deoria City just near the Railway Station of deoria City,called as Deoria Sadar.
Tirupati Balaji temple is also one of the famous temple in Deoria City.
